About Ian

My name’s Ian Robertson, currently 49 – I’ve been a keen mountain biker for about 15 years. Note the word ‘keen’, and not the word ‘expert’. Originally from Cardiff, I now live in rural Hampshire, but have a real soft spot for the Basque country. I used to be a ship’s captain (large oil tankers) but now work for a major oil company, investigating ship-related accidents.

I temporarily gave up the rat race to go and work a season as a mountain bike guide in the Basque country. The trails are mainly in Spain at the western end of the Pyrenees and along the beautiful north coast of Spain. The hope was to increase my skills and fitness, to learn the realities of MTB guiding and to see whether I could hack it full time! Mission accomplished – it was an amazing 5 months, but I have now resumed driving a desk and taking mountain bike trips and holidays whenever I can.

Thanks for looking in.

Ian
